(Miami, FL) – Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) will participate in this year’s national ''Take Your Child to Work Da'y'. Close to 100 children between the ages of 8-18 will familiarize themselves with their parent’s workplace from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014 at MDFR’s Training Center, 9300 NW 41st Street, Doral, Florida.
Activities for the day will include a welcome briefing by Fire Chief Dave Downey, a full hour of interaction with our Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) canines, a tour of the Emergency Operations Center, a presentation about the MDFR’s Venom Response Team, a tour of our new state-of-the-art Communications Center, and an Ocean Rescue presentation. Children will also take part in a mock Firefighter Academy where they will tour MDFR’s Training Center, try out bunker gear, and learn how to use a fire hose. They will also participate in a mock firefighting exercise where they will have to locate the victim to be rescued using a thermal imaging camera. Additionally, MDFR's Hazardous Materials Team (HazMat) will demonstrate the use of their cool gadgets and their well-equipped HazMat truck.
